AUCSAT Case Study

When online vehicle source AUCSAT needed a highly reliable, high-speed method of downloading critical business information from Japan, Maxnet provided the solution.

The AUCSAT Business

Auckland based, Auto Auction Network Limited (AUCSAT) is New Zealand's premier on-line source for used imported Japanese vehicles.

The system provides huge benefits for AUCSAT clients, who would otherwise have to travel to Japan to source their stock. Using AUCSAT's secure web site, from a huge selection of vehicles, clients can view, appraise and bid on at the most popular and reliable auctions in Japan. Being web based, the system can be accessed from work, home or anywhere in the world.

The service is fully integrated from selection to importation of the vehicle from Japan to New Zealand. Using AUCSAT's built-in calculator, a buyer can automatically calculate the full cost of a vehicle delivered to their door. The automated system does all the work, submitting the bid, notifying the results and any opportunities for negotiation.  The AUCSAT system even makes all the import arrangements, manages foreign exchange transactions, export and import documentation, logistics and shipping.

The Technology Challenge

The AUCSAT use of technology and the internet provides a truly great solution for its clients, but there obstacles to overcome.

Daniel Matthews, AUCSAT IT Manager, explains:

"Each day we need to download the data for approximately 10,000 vehicles from Japan. This is a large amount of data which has to be downloaded in a narrow timeframe and processed before the start of the business day in NZ. Our previous supplier had worked hard with us, but was not able to provide the speed and reliability we needed, so we decided to look to other providers. We evaluated about a dozen providers against our list of requirements and Maxnet came out on the top of the list."

The Maxnet Solution

AUCSAT's first requirement was speed with reliability a close second. Maxnet's quality bandwidth, delivered with SLAs from three upstream bandwidth providers, enables Maxnet to meet the speed test. It also provides AUCSAT alternatives in the event that one upstream provider fails. With features such as dual primary power, dual uninterruptible power supplies, dual generators, Maxnet's Albany Internet Data Centre meets the reliability requirements, and also provides the convenience and cost savings of unsupervised access.

To complete the solution, Maxnet and its partners manage the web farm and high availability firewall for AUCSAT.
