Configuring Windows 98 for dialup 

Step 1

• Go to My Computer then Dial-Up Networking.
• Go to Make New Connection.

Step 2

• Type Maxnet as the Name for the computer you are dialing.
• Click Next.

Step 3

• Leave the Area code blank (nothing in there).
• Type the Telephone number as 0867 00006
• Select the Country code as New Zealand (64).
• Click Next.

Step 4
Click Finish.

Step 5

• Right mouse click on the icon that says Maxnet.
• Click on Properties.

Step 6

• Click the tick-box beside Use area code and dialling properties to remove the tick.
• Click the Server Types tab up the top.

Step 7

• Make sure the following options are ticked:
• Enable software compression
• TCP/IP.
• Click OK.

Step 8

• Right mouse click on the icon that says Maxnet again.
• Click on Create Shortcut.
• You will get an error saying Windows can not create a shortcut here, would you like it on the desktop instead. Click Yes.

Please close down all windows and you will see a Shortcut to Maxnet icon which can now be used to connect to the Internet.
