Maxnet chooses Dell to make business growth possible

Maxnet, the 100 per cent New Zealand owned Internet Services Provider (ISP)-, has announced that Dell will provide its virtual technology platform, as part of a major infrastructure re-investment worth over several hundred thousand dollars.

The deal follows a previous agreement whereby Dell provided more than 50 servers as part of an upgrade process to standardise systems and consolidate suppliers.

Maxnet's business focus is "mission critical Internet" and it offers a high level of redundancy services to organisations whose Internet needs are vital to their business.

"Virtualisation is a growing trend for New Zealand businesses as organisations seek to maximise their technology infrastructure and reduce hardware costs and rack space," said Peter O'Dwyer, Dell Sales Account Executive.

"The deal is a great example of Dell working in partnership with a company to achieve a very positive business outcome."

Commenting on the deal, Derek Gaeth, Maxnet Network Operations Manager, said their investment in the virtual platform means the company can host more clients per square meter in its Data Centre and, offer hosted services to customers faster and more cost effectively.

Maxnet's Virtual Private Server (VPS) will be hosted in its specially configured "High Availability" facility. The target market for this service offering will be customers requiring the maximum possible fail-over, security and uptime.

"With the VPS, we will offer customers a slice of enterprise grade computing without having to own or manage the hardware.

"The virtual environment is important: it means that if for some reason one of the servers has to be fixed or investigated, the applications can readily be moved to a different virtual server without any downtime for the customer.

"Maxnet is the only Data Centre of this size to offer this level of redundancy."

The technology upgrade includes Dell servers, the installation project and an EMC Storage Area Network (SAN).

Maxnet made the decision to partner with Dell based on previous good experiences with the company, good logistics and standardisation on drivers and support.

"It wasn't just about who gave us the best price at the end of the day, it's the track record of product and we felt that Dell was the best partner for us in that respect," said Mr. Gaeth.

In 2004 Maxnet was rated as one of New Zealand's fastest growing companies and offers high value services to several thousand business customers alongside 25,000 subscription services to the residential and wholesale markets.
