SMTP Mail Filtering
If your business is managing its own mail services by running in-house mail servers or colocated at Maxnet’s Internet Data Centre, your mail will be delivered to you directly from the outside world. Usually this is achieved by means of Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). Potentially this leaves you open to being inundated with SPAM or worse still, a virus attack.
Maxnet provides an advanced SPAM and virus filter – Mail Guardian – for our customers accessing their mail via our mail server. However if you choose to have your mail delivered directly to your server from the world wide web, we can still ensure your mail is scanned for SPAM and viruses by means of our SMTP Mail Filtering service.
With SMTP Mail Filtering, Maxnet’s Mail Cluster acts as front-line servers for your mail server. What that means is that your mail is delivered to our Maxnet Filter Cluster first where it is scanned for viruses and SPAM by Mail Guardian and then sent to your mail server via SMTP.
As well as advanced mail filtering, you also receive the benefits of an enterprise level redundant mail system (i.e. backup mail services).
This means that if your sever goes down, Maxnet’s Mail Cluster will queue your mail for you until such time as your server is back online. And if Maxnet’s Mail Cluster ever goes down, then our Backup Mail System (colocated in the USA) would queue your mail for you.
It’s really easy for your organisation to set up as no change is required to your mail server configuration. The only configuration required is a small change to the primary MX record for your domain(s). You can either do this yourself via our Member Centre’s self-management interface or our technical support staff can easily assist you.
Not only do you receive SPAM and virus filtering for mail coming in to your server, we can also provide you with an internal office mail filter.
Our outgoing SMTP mail server prevents potential viruses from spreading from one infected PC in your network to other employee’s email addresses
