Consumer.org.nz recently conducted a survey of customers to rank NZ ISPs in terms of customer satisfaction levels. Maxnet ranked among the top three with a customer satisfaction rating of 93%! We believe this is the fruit of our work this year to reduce support call waiting times and to resolve issues first time around. Read more.........
On average we are now answering more than 70% of calls with 60 seconds, and even offer a money back guarantee if we fail to meet our "Business Plus Broadband" response targets.
Growth in our colocation business and a new 30KW per cabinet capability has necessitated a substantial power upgrade.
Maxnet's "B" mains power supply feed into the IDC is being completely replaced with a 1MVA feed, now scheduled for completion at the end of Jan 2009. This means we will have 2 x 1MVA mains power supplies into the IDC (i.e. an upgraded "2N" power supply).
The upgrade involves installation of a number of new switchboards, including a mains switchboard that is more than 6m long.
The top two ranking NZ companies in the Deloitte Asia Pacific awards are Maxnet customers' Torpedo7 and Digital Island. We congratulate them on their success and will be doing everything we can to assist them in their future growth plans. Read more....
A new 1MVA backup generator - affectionately known as "Grover" - is now on site increasing the total number of available generators to three. Maxnet now has a total backup diesel generation capacity of 2MVA. To put this into perspective, that is sufficient generation capacity to power Te Anau township. At full throttle, the three generators go through 4oo litres of diesel an hour. Fortunately they spend most of their lives in stand-by mode waiting for a potential mains power cut, only being powered up for maintenance and regular testing by our specialist maintenance contractors.
Three additional water chiller modules are also being installed increasing the number of on-site chiller stacks (i.e. sets of chiller modules) to 3. This not only increases overall IDC power and cooling capacity but also redundancy.
Recently Maxnet rolled out its new Hot Aisle Containment Colocation Suite - this enables us to provide up to 10 times the rack power and cooling capability of your traditional NZ data centre - far higher than anything any other commercial data centre in NZ can provide. This is good news for anyone with a high density hosting requirement - we can handle virtually any power and cooling requirement you wish to challenge us with!
This month 24x7 onsite manned security at the data centre was put in place. Previously we've had staff onsite from around 7.30a.m. to 9p.m.. After-hours security has previously been managed by means of a monitored alarm system, CCTV, a remote security firm and on-call engineers .We will now have a security guard on-site from 8p.m. to 8a.m. which in conjunction with our CCTV monitoring of all significant areas of the data centre is providing superb security. We are also implementing stricter change control measures in our High Availability Suite. These measures have been designed to enable customers to go about their business without unnecessary bureaucratic hindrances, but will further ensure the integrity of our power and cooling supplies.
From the beginning of December, “Premium Support” hours have been extended to 8a.m. to 8p.m.. Please continue to phone the Premium Support direct dial number for this support: 09 915 1825. On-call engineers will still be available 24x7 as usual to attend to any escalated issues.

A valuable recent addition to Maxnet's Premium Support team is Jonathan Webster. Jonathan began his Maxnet career on the helpdesk team and has been with the company for a year. He has a Bachelor in Business Studies, majoring in Information Systems and Management. Among his interests outside work are photography, squash and audio mixing. Jonathan is currently undergoing Maxnet's Evo2 training which will help equip him for the challenges of the new role. He says: "A day without learning is a day wasted, so I really look forward to the new role!" The Premium Support Team provides first level support to premium customers, and is backed up by Maxnet's team of network and system engineers.
"Environmental Sustainability"and the general need to look after our planet are now significant considerations, particularly for high energy users such as Maxnet's data centre. As a result we are making significant investments in energy saving initiatives as we upgrade our infrastructure and roll out new energy saving services. We expect to be able to soon declare ourselves as the most energy efficient data centre in New Zealand. So watch this space - we will be providing more information as these initiatives progress.
In summary, Maxnet is making a significant resource investment to ensure we can continue to meet your future requirements. It’s a commitment to both “continuous improvement” and our goal of providing “mission critical solutions” to customers.
